What are the sewer service charges based upon?

Your sewer bill is based on a flat rate system, not on water consumption. The Authority Law requires that all customers be treated uniformly. Due to the fact that not all customers have public water available to them, we cannot bill based on water usage. Our rates are aligned with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection projected flow criteria established for the design and conveyance capacity of sanitary sewers for residential, commercial and industrial uses.

What are your office hours?

Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 4:00PM, (908) 371-9660. Our Maintenance Office is open from 7:00AM to 3:30PM, (908) 722-5160.. Holidays Excluded.

How often are we billed and when are they due?

Bills are mailed quarterly to residences and businesses in advance. Each bill issued by our Authority covers three months of sewer service for your property. All bills are due upon receipt. However, as a courtesy, late charges do not commence until the 1st day of the following month from the due date before late charges are assessed. Any payment received after that date will be subject to a 1.5% late charge calculated back to the billing date.

ANY DELINQUENT ACCOUNT AS OF DECEMBER 31st OF THE CURRENT TAX YEAR WILL BE PLACED ON THE TAX SALE LIST. ACCOUNTS ON THIS LIST WILL BE SUBJECT TO ADDITIONAL COSTS. THE ANNUAL TAX SALE IS SCHEDULED FOR APRIL OF THE FOLLOWING TAX YEAR.

Where do I pay my bill?

Payments can also be mailed to PO Box 5909, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.

THERE IS NO DROP BOX AVAILABLE. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENTS STUFFED UNDER THE DOOR.

Your checks should be made payable to and mailed, with the stub to:

Can I pay my bills over the phone or internet?

The MUA cannot accommodate our customers with payment by phone. However, you may stop in at our office located at 220 Triangle Road, Suite 234, Hillsborough and pay by cash, check or money order in person.

Mailing your payment is also an option. Never mail cash.

You may also pay your bill through your own bank’s online bill pay (Simply go to your bank’s website and sign up for online bill pay then set up your Hillsborough MUA payments)

Do you take credit card payments?

Currently we don’t accept either credit or debit cards, but this option may be available in the future.

I will be away on vacation. Can I pay my bill in advance?

Yes, you can pay your bill in advance.

Can I view my account or bills via the Internet?

At present we do not provide this option; however, we are always examining the possibility of additional technologies.

Who is responsible for the payment? Owner or Tenant?

It is the property owner who is responsibility to pay the sewer service charges. As a courtesy, only after the owner has completed the proper documentation, the Hillsborough MUA will send a bill to a tenant. Nevertheless, that will not relieve the owner of responsibility of any amounts due.

What does my bill pay for?

The sewer bill pays for the operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer collection system and treatment of the wastewater by Somerset Raritan Valley Sewerage Authority.
